Layers of Color / Moments in Time May 1 – June 29 | My Muse Art Gallery, Carrboro, NC
My latest exhibition, Layers of Color / Moments in Time, is on view at My Muse Art Gallery in Carrboro, North Carolina. This body of work — figurative paintings, collages, and functional art — is an invitation into my world of color and characters. Each piece holds a moment, a presence, a story. I hope you will come and experience them firsthand.
You are invited to the Opening Reception - Sunday, May 10 from 5–7pm. With the opening falling on Mother's Day weekend, it is a beautiful occasion to celebrate the women and mother figures in your life surrounded by rich, dynamic art that honors the divine feminine. The evening will be filled with live piano music, refreshments, good conversation and connection. Admission is free and all are welcome.
You are invited to an Artist Talk — Sunday, June 7, 1–2PM. Join me for an intimate afternoon at My Muse Art Gallery as I share the stories and inspiration behind Layers of Color / Moments in Time.
Mark your calendar for the second reception of this exhibit on Friday, June 12th from 6-9pm. There will be a special dance performance at 7pm. Choreographer and dancer Anabelle Scarborough brings Layers of Color / Moments in Time to life through a site-responsive dance activation created in dialogue with my work. Drawing on the women, symbolism, and vibrant energy woven throughout the exhibit, this immersive performance will transform the gallery into a living, moving experience. The dance will be performed by Anabelle Scarborough, Amanda Camos, Niya Lovelace, Sara Dellinger, Rainey Scarborough, and Brooklyn Rose. I look forward to seeing you there. "Putting together this show, I realized that there are pieces from eight different series created over several years: Grids, Altars, large figurative pieces, papier mache bowls, garden tables, collage numbers, Numerology, and Secret Language in Nature.
I get inspired by moving through my days carefully, observing and taking note of what transpires.
Each of these series has an origin story that began as a kernel of an idea. Everything starts in my sketchbook. My sketchbooks hold quotes from books that inspire me, poems that move me, quick drawings of ideas for pieces as well as longer, more realized drawings when ideas become concrete. Series emerge from those more concrete ideas. I stay with an idea or topic until I’ve exhausted all possibilities before I move on.
This show is a compilation of many of these ideas come to fruition; layers of color and moments in time."
